About the Artist
“I am constantly in search of the ultimate piece; the piece that will encompass me and my beliefs, the piece that will leave my mark on the world. My journey of self discovery has at times taken me away from my art, but I always return, with more passion and determination to create.”
Xavier Zamarripa, born and raised in Dallas, Texas, discovered his artistic talents early in life when his mother enrolled him in painting classes at age 10. His dedicated pursuit of swimming, which almost took him to Olympic trials, came to an abrupt end due to a shoulder injury. He struggled to find his path after having his shoulder reconstructed. With prayer and meditation to guide him, he entered Holy Trinity Seminary where he attended the University of Dallas. His focus went back to art. He was always inspired by the art and amazing artists of the churches in Europe. The next few years of his life were in search of his true path. Finding that life in the Seminary was not his true calling, he traveled to Mexico exploring the culture and doing some soul searching. Returning to his studies, he began exploring his talent for design and execution of mosaics.
To further his knowledge of techniques and materials, Xavier traveled to France, through Italy and even to Sweden, reigniting within himself his passion for art. He never tired of drinking in the art and culture around him in all of the countries he visited. In Italy, he had the rare opportunity to train with the Vatican Mosaic Studio and learn the ancient ways of creating and preserving mosaic art work.
Upon his return to Dallas, Xavier continued his focus on mosaics, where he began designing and installing mosaic glass swimming pools. He found a way to incorporate his artistic abilities into a successful business. His swimming pools can be found across the U.S.A. in California, Florida, Texas and Georgia. That success afforded him opportunities to pursue other artistic interests and commissions. After his most recent Wine Decanter Exposition, which was carried over as a traveling exhibition at The Kemp Museum in Texas, Xavier decided to pursue his dream of creating his own art full-time.
Always working on something new, his mind is ever-producing wild and fresh ideas and encompasses many mediums. His talents include sculpting, painting, sketching, handblown glass, glass slumping, mosaic art and metal work. You can now find his pieces in various museums, private residences, and galleries across the U.S.A.
Xavier now resides outside Santa Fe, New Mexico, with his wife and two daughters. Always dreaming of his next creation...
